Autism Awareness Month

A lot of these months where we take notice of different people feel a bit like a joke. You can’t be racist during February, and you can’t be homophobic during June, but once the month ends all the profile pictures go back to normal and minorities get pushed to the wayside again. Yet even though I have a pretty negative view of those months in general, I don’t think it’s a bad concept. There are lots of problems, people and conditions in the world that we need to embrace and understand to create a kinder future for all of us.

So in this upcoming month, you’re not allowed to make jokes about autism. No stimming in the mosh pit, no “rizz em with the tism”, none of that. I am of course joking. People with autism can make jokes, did you know that? We don’t take everything super literal like Sheldon Cooper. But then again, I do have a favorite seat. Do you have a favorite toilet at work? Like, there are two in the stall where I work, but I always take the left when it’s not occupied. Is that weird? I feel like I’m losing my audience.

We’re going to talk a fair bit about autism this upcoming month. It’s something I’ve talked about many times in the past, but when I looked back at my more recent posting history I found it lacking a lot. I spoke more about general problems and depression or feeling unwell than actual autism. There are a ton of interesting subjects still left unexplored, so if you are even remotely interested in those, make sure you check in regularly throughout the month of April. The schedule will become a bit of a mess, but that only means there will be more content than normal. And of course things like One Piece Wednesday and The Hesitant Hero will continue according to their regular schedule, although I do have a short break planned for both of those in the near future. This has been your regular update, thanks for reading!
