One Piece Volume 100

The end is in sight as we finally reach a monumental milestone on our journey of reading through all of One Piece again. Volume 100. It took us about 2 years to get to this point and we only have a month or two to go until we’re fully caught up. It is very nice to see how good these arcs are when you read them at a better pace than 3 chapters every month. Now without further ado, let’s dive into this volume and all that it has to offer.

We start off with Sanji still in captivity, being defeated pretty easily by Black Maria. His haki won’t activate to defend him because if he does activate it, it might hit a lady’s fist. Yeah, Sanji is a good character. He relents and relies on the help of his friends, calling over Robin. She comes to his aid, alongside Brook who has no issue fighting against women. The two of them square off against the spider lady of the Tobi Roppo while Sanji goes off to fight elsewhere. In the meantime, Carrot and Wanda get defeated by Perospero because their Sulong powers go away when the moon isn’t visible.

In the main hall, Chopper is still rushing to find a cure for Queen’s poison that is hurting everyone. Queen doesn’t care that he’s hurting his own allies cause they’re the failures and the losers who are waiting for a shipment of Smile fruits that will never arrive. They can always get new soldiers. The pleasures and waiters turn on Queen and put their faith in Chopper who manages to get a cure just before disaster strikes. He doesn’t apply an antivirus, but he fights the virus with another virus that has the opposite effect and heats everyone’s bodies back up. He then gets mad and uses his big form, explaining to everyone that he is “not a racoon dog” and we get some funny reaction faces.

The ghost of Kanjuro continues to haunt the Ayakaza as he draws a perfect likeness of Oden and tries to trick them. They don’t fall for it that well, but they also struggle to actually attack what looks like their lord and Ashura Doji gets killed in an explosion after being stabbed by Kanjuro. To make matters worse, Jack shows up to fight them. They leave Jack to Inuarashi and move on to find a still living Orochi in their path, who they swiftly cut up. He is no match for the legends of Wano.

Five of the strongest generation face off against Big Mom and Kaido on the roof of Onigashima. With some surprisingly impressive teamwork they pull off an incredible stunt and although Luffy briefly gets knocked out, they manage to block the two emperors’ strongest attack thanks to Zoro and the toss Big Mom off the roof. Arguably the biggest surprise of this entire sequence is that Kid actually shows appreciation for Zoro’s defense. Kid doesn’t compliment anyone throughout the series I think, so him saying thanks to Zoro is huge. Once Luffy is back up, Law brings everyone down below with the exception of Luffy and Kaido, who face off against each other on the roof. Both Zoro and Luffy have now proven to be able to hurt Kaido so it looks like this fight is not as one-sided as you might think.

Back inside, things are happening at a fast pace too. Killer faces off against Hawkins while Nami, Usopp and Tama are still being chased by two of the Tobi Roppo: Ulti and Page One. And to make matters worse, Big Mom lands right in front of them. Or is this the saving grace that they needed? Big Mom is still thankful to Tama for helping her out when she had lost her memory so with one big attack she takes out Page One. After some back and forth she also takes out Ulti, dealing with two of the Tobi Roppo. But although she’s friends with Tama, the same can’t be said for Usopp and Nami and she is about to kill them when Kid shows up to help them out. Having fully replaced Zeus with her new cloud familiar Hera, she now faces off against the captain of the Kid Pirates.

Unfortunately for the alliance, Luffy has lost his fight against Kaido and is currently sinking into the sea. With all hope lost, Kaido announces his victory and morale plummets. Chopper is dealing with Queen and Perospero and he’s having a hard time until Sanji shows up to help him out. We end volume 100 on a positive note. The Polar Tang scoops Luffy up from the ocean as Momonosuke – who can hear the voice of all things just like Kaido, Big Mom and Luffy can – announces that Luffy is not yet dead and he will beat Kaido after all. Morale shifts again but there is still a long way ahead before any victory is won. Five more volumes to be precise. But with that said, we’ll end our recap of volume 100 here. I hope you enjoyed and I’d love to see you here again next week for volume 101. Thanks for reading.
