Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 – Episode 8

Almost unsurprisingly after the hints we got last week, Teruko is definitely still an enemy. After Atsushi comes across an inconsistency in her story, he gets turned into a child by her powers. That’s right, we’re jumping straight into it. The opening plays early this week as well, I hope that’s a sign that there’s a lot to come.

remember, all cops are bastards

Unfortunately for Tetchou, he accidentally activates Kenji’s PTSD and promptly gets sent straight through the exit terminal, no baggage pick-up required. It’s easy to forget that pretty much everyone in the agency is an absolute monster. We still haven’t even seen the boss go all out today. But Kenji goes crazy when he’s angry and has incredible powers. I kind of like Tetchou though. Luckily no one ever really dies in these stories (sorry Oda Sakunosuke). This fight ends in a draw, with both of them being knocked out. Unfortunately this doesn’t better Atsushi’s situation.

One Rage Farmer

We swap to the other side of the world where Dazai and Sigma are still trying to make their way out of the prison. Meanwhile Fyodor and Chuuya are also making their way to the prison. Calling sigma sharp for a three year old is really funny. He technically is three years old I suppose, but he was born an adult. It seems right now like Dazai has the upper hand over Fyodor.

I’ve missed Dazai’s wit, hopefully we get more action from him in the next few episodes

Dazai and Ango have been working with a gifted person who can stop time around her. With the gifted in question being locked up, there’s no benefit to her normally using her ability, since she can’t move anyway, and no one else will even know when the ability has been used. But there is one person whose ability doesn’t work. Of course, that’s Dazai. He’s been using these mornings to make preparations. And the woman gets a plea deal from Ango when all is said and done. Dazai uses his heartbeat to send messages to Ango, and Ango uses the duration and frequency of these time stops to communicate with Dazai. It makes sense in an over the top, bungo stray dogs logic, but it’s still very out there. Dazai and Sigman now have access to the entire control room while Fyodor and Chuuya are stuck and will soon start drowning. If this is really all there is to Fyodor’s plans that would be a little bit disappointing, but they have one-upped each other a million times already in this season, so who knows.

All that remains of Chuuya is the hat.

It would be kind of funny if Dazai has had the complete upper hand over Fyodor from the very start. These are Aizen levels of planning except it doesn’t end in massive failure. There’s also a fun reminder that we still don’t know what Fyodor’s special ability is. Planning to kill Chuuya off in the meantime is kind of hardcore. Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess.

Unfortunately I don’t think that ended up happening

Aya is still on the run with Bram and she’s decided to go through the employee exit while hiding in a truck. It’s a good plan but with the amount of crazy powers in play I doubt it will work out as she’s planned. The holy sword that’s stuck into Bram was once a gifted who got turned into metal when he died. So the ability is still in the sword. That’s how the sword got its power. And like clockwork, Akutagawa shows up to deal with Aya and take Bram back. This is looking very bad. Akutagawa is still a mindless zombie here. I do have some hope that she will take hold of the sword and Bram will work for her instead of Fukuchi. Probably not though, that might be too much to ask. We are getting closer and closer to a conclusion with only a handful of episodes left. I’m curious where this arc will take us, and after that I’ll probably have to get into the manga, seeing as it might be a while before we get more anime. But that’s a worry for another day. Thanks for reading!

Solid advice.
