Tensura Season 4 – Episode 11

It is currently very warm outside. I’m basically sleep-deprived as the last two nights have been pretty awful for me. We’re getting our windows and their frames all replaced but because my dad is doing part of it himself so it saves in costs, that does mean we’ll spend some time with part of the windows fully out of the frame, so my smaller window is now just an open hole with some plywood covering it. It’s not great for someone like me who already doesn’t sleep easily and adding into that the fact that when I woke up this morning it was STILL 29c it’s no wonder I feel like absolute crap this morning. So keep that in mind if this post feels a bit more fever-dreamy than normal.

This poor girl and this poor baby dragon. They genuinely did nothing wrong and everything bad happened to them.

We get a little bit more insight into the story of the dragon princess that we’ve been getting hints at since season 2. Milim grew up without any parents, as both her parents passed away before she got old enough to really be aware of them. Her mother was a human woman and her father was one of the four true dragons who put his remaining spirit into a baby dragon companion for his daughter. The great sorcerous nation that Kagali was originally from is the one that killed Milim’s dragon companion which is why she ended up destroying the nation in return, becoming a demon lord in the process. We see Guy Crimson and what I assume is the previous Queen of fairies before Ramiris as they console a young Milim. Her then reborn dragon did not have a soul and was returned as the Chaos Dragon, a destructive and angry being that had to be sealed away by Milim. Poor little girl. And thinking all of this was in the past, it has to be an incredible shock to her system that Maribel, Yuuki and Kagali conspired to bring the dragon back to life to deal with Milim. As much as he likes to play the goofy guy, Yuuki is truly unforgivable for some of the atrocious acts he commits and I cannot wait for Rimuru to eventually kick his ass.

Such a reliable little slime.

Considering that the Greed ability that Maribel used on the dragon is still lingering around, I reckon that means that with the transfer of Greed to Yuuki, the influence over the dragon stayed. Not that the Chaos Dragon wouldn’t have been a problem without the influence of Greed, but it’s an even bigger problem now. And in the middle of the rampage, the castle that formerly belonged to Clayman is destroyed in a single flash. Shion and Gobta are helping the survivors of the city below in their escape while Rimuru figures out a way to deal with the dragon. It seems like some portion of the original dragon’s soul is still present. This doesn’t mean the dragon itself is still there, but some part of it is trying to still fight back. Milim has to destroy the entire dragon without destroying the core that Rimuru is trying to extract. Her training to show restraint is hopefully going to pay off here. It seems I was wrong about Yuuki keeping the Greed control. It’s just that Rimuru got here so fast that Maribel was still alive when this scene started. Obviously that doesn’t mean Yuuki isn’t still a main conspirator of this whole ordeal, but at least he either didn’t choose to keep greed active or wasn’t able to do so.

It all comes full circle. Each arc in this show does enough setting up for the reveals to feel earned. At least a little bit.

Milim shows us once again why she’s such a force to be reckoned with. She has the power to destroy a chaos dragon in one single attack. And although his intent here is to save the people and help his friend, does this use of Beelzebub mean that Rimuru is taking all the power of the Chaos Dragon for himself? One thing I really appreciate from this series is that even though it likes for things to work out beyond what even seems to be reasonable. Having the dragon come back to its senses is a fairy tale ending, but the soul receptors that the party designed early on did make for a good setup for this scene to happen. And with that we have Gaia, the egg that holds Milim’s old friend. If this thing hatches and Happy from Fairy Tail pops out of it I will throw a fit though. And with that, it looks like all of our problems have been solved. Surely things will be peaceful from here on out, right?

*narrows eyes* Sure buddy.

Maribel’s plans fell through due to the meddling of Yuuki and Kagali. Yuuki wanted her out of the way and he more than succeeded. Our madman is casually reading Cells at Work while talking about the evil deeds he just managed to shove off to the now dead Maribel. With the western nations under the protection of Luminus, Maribel thought things would end up alright and went into this terrible plan with much more confidence than she should have. And Yuuki now has the nerve to propose a meeting with Granville Rozzo, the leader of the family and the former hero. The connections here are interesting as Granville once fought it out with Luminus Valentine and they seem to still have a connection with each other, but Rimuru also has a non aggression pact with the demon lord herself. Yuuki is probably planning to ruin that in some way before he makes his way east to get out of dodge of whatever chaos is coming his way. He may be able to appear innocent out in the open, but there’s blood in the water and everyone knows it.

This post was already getting long so I’ll put this here instead, but Granville is unhappy about what happened. I was wondering if he was manipulating his granddaughter or truly cared and we now have the answer.

This is completely unrelated, but we get a small shot of Rimuru writing something and even though the sounds of someone writing are put under the shot, they didn’t bother to animate the feather one bit. Not that it actually matters but I thought it was funny. Rimuru didn’t realize that Yuuki wasn’t actually under Greed’s control. Raphael is and always has been the smart one in this relationship. She hides things from Rimuru to protect him and due to being essentially a supercomputer – what the hell even is the great sage/Raphael? – she can predict what the smartest route is. Was that a little glimpse of Raphael’s true self we saw there. Is this a budding romance?

Oh, so we’re showing our emotions now? Is that how it is?
