We return to Souei confronting the sniper. She should have moved from her spot the moment she failed to kill Prince Elric. Last time she got out of dodge before Souei could find her, but this time he was more prepared. She’s obsessed with finding out more about Diablo and his master, having been thwarted by them last season. Unsurprisingly, guns don’t work on the stronger people in this world, which Souei definitely falls under. With her being able to put magic into bullets, that does change the playing field a bit, but I have to wonder why she wouldn’t use it for her regular assassinations just to be safe. Maybe there’s a drawback to it that she isn’t telling us here. I do feel like the tension is sort of ruined after Shion and them came back to life in the second season. The moment Souei’s arm was cut off I was pretty certain he would be fine and it was just a clone. Rimuru’s people are beyond overpowered.

With Souei capturing our mystery sniper, and everything at the council going well, we reconvene for some coffee. The fact that she was able to take out three of Souei’s body doubles is kind of crazy. I do wonder if we ever got her name in previous seasons. I’ve been beating myself up trying to remember it and even went and did some light googling – I don’t want to run into spoilers on accident – but couldn’t figure it out. Maybe we simply don’t know yet and my reputation of having a fantastic memory is saved. Nevermind. Hinata gives us her name and it sounds very familiar. I guess we’ve heard Glenda’s name before and I did forget it. I don’t think we knew she might be an otherworlder though. How many of them do we have by now? We have the pastry chef, Shizu, Maribel, Yuuki, Masayuuki, Rimuru, Hinata, Glenda and the kids. Am I forgetting anyone? Probably. I do like this concept of just having a bunch of people from other worlds here as opposed to just one. It makes the concept that Rimuru is so powerful a bit more balanced due to him not being the only one with this potential. But his spawn point was a bit too overpowered still.

“I’m relieved to see that you’re well.” Probably the scariest thing Hinata could have seen. It doesn’t look like Glenda is going to offer too much resistance. Despite that, she refuses to answer any of Hinata’s questions. With Hinata almost killing her during the interrogation, Shuna shows why she is the scary one by immediately suggesting to just kill her and resurrect her. Sidenote, I love Rimuru’s way of sitting here like a high school student refusing to behave himself during class.
Raphael is pretty damn good at this whole interrogating thing. Raphael has not only figured out that the people who were being greedy were all connected, but also that Glenda was being affected by Maribel’s greed skill too. Not only that, but they even figured out that Maribel is the one who the skill actually belongs to. With this, her plans for now have been thoroughly foiled and she herself realizes this as well. Yuuki tries to put a positive spin on things which leads me more and more to believe that he’s not actually under her control at all, but instead he is the one manipulating her into overstepping. Perhaps he wants to clash with Rimuru more directly than I initially thought and he will use the Greed ability to pretend it wasn’t his fault. That might not work if Raphael can sense exactly how controlled people are by this ability, but Rimuru is already about 99% certain that Yuuki is a bad guy anyway, so all he really needs to do is have a solid enough defense to not be caught in outright lies.

One thing I really like about Maribel – and it makes sense considering her past life was such a success – is that she will admit when she’s wrong or when she’s underestimated someone else. Even her logic sort of makes sense. We all know that Rimuru is a good guy, but the idea that a demon lord could walk all over the human council whenever he pleases due to his military might is not wrong. If Rimuru decides to change his mind, he could wipe the human countries off the map. If she wants her plans to succeed she needs to get Rimuru out of the picture.

Hearing the explanation that Maribel can completely destroy any otherworlders with her powers of Greed makes sense as to why they would be working for her despite being strong willed characters as well. Raphael being able to undo the curse is just crazy. It’s on brand, but still. At least it results in Glenda spilling all of the beans on Maribel’s plans, Yuuki’s involvement and even the fact that Granville Rozzo is still alive and scheming behind the scenes. I have a bad feeling that Glenda isn’t going to be long for this world, but I’d like to see what value she can add to the group.

This may be a little bit off-topic but there’s a short trailer for the upcoming story arc in Critical Role Campaign 4 which has the narrator (Brennan) give a fantastic speech from the perspective of nobility that shows off exactly how dangerous an uprising can be and how greedy the ruling class is. Maribel’s history as a noblewoman in Europe – and a powerful one at that – definitely explains the greed she has well. She’d rather die than let someone she considers to be her lessers have more power than her. I’m excited for the confrontation that seems to be coming towards us at a much faster speed than I expected. Then again, if we get one strategy meeting before the confrontation that can fill a good four or five episodes. That’s not a complaint by the way, I’m all here for it. Thanks for reading!
